Kameenapan

If I had to the rate the movie on it’s style, I would say we have a winner.

If I had to rate the movie on performances, I would say we have something to rave about.

If I had to like a movie based on the fact that Shahid’s puberty season is finally over, I would say “This was it!”

But then that’s not why we watch movies, or do we?

Was there a point, a purpose, a message or at least a story line. I missed it, or probably I am ignoring the fact that we have started making movies which are hybrid rip offs of probably a “Snatch” and a “Pulp Fiction”. But seriously if it was that, where was the style in the words. There was no dialogue like “I have to go powder my nose.” or “Are you taking the piss?” that would have caught one’s attention and would go on to become a lingo that the kids would use.

Moving onto the movie, Guddu and sweetie love each other but it’s not a love story. Guddu has a twin brother Charlie, they don’t love each other, but that’s not the story either. Then there are some gangsters, politicians, policemen and drugs in the middle but that didn’t appeal to me either. I don’t want to ruin the non-existent plot any further, so I would leave that to your pea-sized imagination.

The music though excellent, promises only 4 songs in the film. You make a bollywood movie and you have excellent music backing you up, why not go all the way!

Talking about the performances, the boy has matured and is a man now. Shahid has arrived and that is great news. Would Kareena chew her nails when she watches the movie? Let’s hope some good comes out of it, and Bebo realises her mistake. But then she has Pataudi junior’s shoulder. Or does she?

Priyanka  has already proved her acting abilities to the world in Fashion and she steps up in this one. A small and a powerful performance is what I can say. A simple girl on the outside and fireball on the inside, finally intelligent actresses like these have started to display the true face of young Indian women. Yes! They do have sex in college, they do use protection and they do make mistakes.

Speaking about kissing controversies, there was no hype around the Shahid-Priyanka smooch and it turned out to be the hottest one in 2009.

Vishal Bharadwaj is truly talented and that comes out in almost every scene. Everything starting from the performances, to the music, to the direction, and the cinematography is pretty decent in their line, but the combination basically misses the punch!

The most tastefully shot scene is in black and white and comes in the end. Do watch out for it and share your perspective with your comments.

Maybe it’s the overhype or maybe it’s the dearth of great cinema, Kaminay falls below our expectations.

The "BEST" magazine covers ever!

Lets begin in the reverse order :

#10 : This story till date is considered to be the longest ever article to be published in ESQUIRE. A lot of 33,000 words! The all black cover with the white inscription helped in changing the public perception on the Vietnam war and was a landmark in journalism.

What I like about it, is the impact that it creates just as you see it. I would have definitely picked up this magazine from the stands.

Esquire October 1966

#9 : This photo was used as a tribute to John Lennon on Jan 22, 1981. It was taken a few hours before Lennon was shot on December 8, 1980.

In the picture : John Lennon and Yoko Ono

One of the kinds...!!

#8 : Jordan in his chicago bulls costume jumping in an all white background.

The article describes rather speculates on whether Jordan should retire or not.

What I love about it is : The shadow of jordan, the background and the use of red and white!

#7 : The image wasn't supposed to portray what it did. However it was marked as a symbol of the sexual scandal in the white house with Monica Lewinskey.

What I like about it : The man looks content! ;-)

#6 : This particular cover of the Dixie Chicks was after the criticism they had received after the remarks they had given on America's invasion of Iraq.

They also speak about their careers in the country music industry.

May 2, 2003

#5 : Shows the provacative shot of a naked and very pregnant Demi Moore. This was taken after one of her most successful movies "Ghost".

The cover moved her up in hollywood's A-list.

My Take : Was she really pregnant in this one?The pictures looks very unnatural to me. But of course it would be one of the most revollutioniary covers Vanity fair ever came up with.

#4 : This cover of People features a black and white photograph of Princess Diana, and the issue is a tribute to her life after she was killed in August 1997 in a car crash. Diana appeared on the cover of the magazine a record 52 times and was one of the most popular People cover subjects.
My take :
There are so many stories to her death.
Was it an accident or a murder?
The love for the person around the entire nation brought tears in my eyes when I saw the ceremony. The best part about her life was the fact that she always lived it up! Sadly...she dies coz of living life on her terms, always. An unfortunate event in time.

#3 : An opinion of 3 christian theologians thet God was dead as he was no longer visible in public and religion was dead. The article received a lot of criticism from the readers.

My take : I love the cover. Would make me buy the magazine even if I didn't know the significance of the TIME magazine. Good use of Red on solid black. Impactful !

#2 : The very famous cover of the national geographic that shows a 12 year old refugee in a camp on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It is one of the highest reproducible images in the world.

It received the greatest number of photography awards.

My take : The eyes haunt me. She has a thousand stories hidden in them, and she speaks nothing.

The article ends here.

I would give the best cover in my next post.
Hope you enjoyed the selection.
